Interview with Tita Leslie, Pulse Co-founder

Can you present yourself?

Hey, I’m Leslie Tita, I hold an Associate in Interactive Media from ISTDI Douala and I’m currently a Web Development student at Franklin University (USA). I’m also co-founder and project manager of the Cameroonian Based Pulse.cm . I’m member of the American professional organization for design (AIGA), As well as one of pioneering members of Barcamp Cameroon, I’m also social entrepreneur and user interface designer.

Tell us What is Pulse?

They over 5millions university students in S.S africa, but a majority of African university offer no form of online students services, so students rely solely on notice boards, inclass announcement and mouth to mouth communications, and we want to change that.

The Pulse project aims to build low-cost online student services platform for African universities, It is a cool and easy way for universities and professors to communicate with their students.

What are its objectives?

Pulse objectives are to:

  • To provide all African universities with low cost but highend means to efficiently and quickly communicate with theirs students.
  • To reduce the cost and time spent by students to acquire information
  • Make African higher education become less boring.
  • Encourage the use of ICTs in our higher education environments

Which Market are your targets?

We target principally African higher education market i.e Universities/higher institutions, Lecturers and Students.

What technologies are used?

Pulse is built on open source software based principally on PHP , and also will use the Twitter api and sms gateways technologies for its mobile end.

What’s your vision?

Our vision is to provide a platform where anyone can make use of our service free of charge, that way we will see our educational system take a major uplift in its way of operating, thus enabling students to be able to consult whatever resource they want, let it be a timetable, test results or courses from their mobile phones, Our main vision is to connect african universities their students.

And finally your Business Model ?

Our major source of revenue will be based on a freemium model, we will allow any university, faculty or students to launch their platform free of charge, and will offer them great number of different options, we also expect to generate minor part of our revenue through ad-space,

  2. This project is practically and technically the most brilliant one that offers Africa with high-tech solutions to education and gives african higher education a total face-lift and superb inter-connectivity!!!
    I believe through this platform, a student in Cairo will have a lot in common with a student in Malawi and a professor in Accra will have much to benefit from a professor in Buea, Cameroon!
    This is simply brilliant!!!!
